Men’s Soccer Grabs First Win of Season

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team traveled to South Carolina Friday afternoon to face off against the Bantams of USC Union. In the game, the Statesmen picked up their first win of the season, 3-1, moving to 1-0-1 in conference play and overall.

The Statesmen got on the board in the 15^th minute of the game when Juan Santana found the back of the net after receiving a ball from Patrick Dane. The Statesmen scored 20 minutes later before the end of the first half, when Santana found Alonso Villegas for a Villegas goal. Victor Manuel went on to solidify the victory after tallying an unassisted goal in the 71^st minute of the game, helping the Statesmen to a 3-1 road win.

Nate Newberry played all 90 minutes between the pipes and was credited with seven saves, and just one goal against. Richard Bland totaled 11 shots and six corner kicks on the day.

The Richard Bland College men's soccer team next travels to USC Salkehatchie on Sunday, September 8^th for a conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
