SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team once again traveled to South Carolina Friday afternoon to face off against the Lancers of USC Lancaster. In the highly anticipated battle, Richard Bland and USC Lancaster scored a draw after 90 minutes of play, having the Statesmen move to 2-0-2 overall and in conference play.
USC Lancaster got ahead early in the opening minutes and held a 1-0 lead through 32 minutes of play. In the 33rd minute, Diego Zogbi spoiled the Lancers' day, sneaking one past their keeper to level the game, 1-1. Caleb Muluneh was credited with Zogbi's assist. The score remained 0-0 through the remainder of the game, despite the Statesmen earning eight shots and three corner kicks on the day.
Nate Newberry started between the pipes for Richard Bland. He was credited with seven saves, with one lone goal against in 90 minutes of play.
The Richard Bland College men's soccer team has one day off before their next conference contest. The Statesmen will finally compete in their home opener on Sunday, September 15th in an 11am game with the Fire Ants of USC Sumter.
