Men’s Soccer Draws with Southwest, Falls to Wake Tech

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team hosted Southwest Virginia Community College Monday afternoon in their second meeting of the season, and Wake Technical Community College Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match. In the first meeting with the Flying Eagles, they earned a 3-3 tie, and the result was identical in their second meeting Monday. During today's match, Richard Bland dropped the 1-6 non-conference game, moving the Statesmen to 3-2-3 overall and 3-1-3 in conference play.

On Monday, the Statesmen took the 1-0 lead in the 25th minute against the Flying Eagles when Daniel Nunfio assisted Alonso Villegas. Southwest Virginia leveled the game at one, just before the first half came to an end. Five minutes into the second half, Villegas found the back of the net once again, unassisted. Southwest once again tied the game, 2-2, two minutes later. In the 85th minute, Jeffrey Espinoza and Otto Eisenhardt teamed up for an Eisenhardt goal to take the 3-2 lead. The Flying Eagles added their third, and tying goal in the final minutes of the game, as the Statesmen and Flying Eagles ended in a draw. Adrian Rios played all 90 minutes in net and was credited with five saves.

Tuesday afternoon, Wake Technical Community College wasted no time getting on the board. The Eagles took the lead, and led 0-2 through the first 45 minutes of play. Shortly into te second half, Victor Manuel served the ball into Alonso Villegas, and Villegas put one past the keeper to narrow the margin. Unfortunately, the Eagles tallied four more times in the second half and the Statesmen were unable to answer, as they fell 1-6 this afternoon. Adrian Rios played all 90 minutes in net and was credited with 12 saves on the day. Despite only tallying one goal, the Statesmen totaled 14 shots on goal on the day.

The Richard Bland College men's soccer team next hosts Denmark Technical College this Thursday, September 26th in a 2pm contest. This is the make-up date for the August 31st game.
