RICHARD BLAND'S BIG THREE RUNNERS SET FOR NATIONAL MEET IN ARIZONA

PETERSBURG, VA, April 21, 2014- In the first year of track and field at Richard Bland College, the Statesmen have accomplished some great achievements. Statesmen Head Track & Field Coach Matt High stated "All of the student-athlete's in our program trained very hard all season long, beginning in the fall season, indoor and now for outdoors, and their accolades prove it". The Statesmen will feature the trio combination events of sprints, distance, and hurdlers at the NJCAA Track and Field Nationals.

Freshman Joshua Washington(Triangle, VA/Forest Park HS) claimed an NJCAA Indoor title has qualified for the NJCAA nationals in two events, the 100 meters and 200 meters. Joshua recorded a qualifying time of 10.55 in the 100 meters earlier this spring at George Mason University, while picking up his second qualifying time of 21.25 for the 200 meters to advance to the national meet. Coach High stated, "Josh has trained really well this season, he should vie for the title in the 200 meters after recording one of the top 30 times in the United States (at his time of qualifying), which includes professional athletes".

Sophomore Adrain Jackson(Hampton, VA/Phoebus HS) qualified for the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.96. "Adrain had a great year of training and has come into his own in the 400 meter hurdles, I am looking forward to a very fast race for Adrain in Arizona", added High.

Freshman Maxwell Chambers(Centreville, VA/Westfield HS) who has claimed an indoor national championship in the 600 meters after coming off a head injury during soccer season which sideline him for two months. "Max shows the signs of a true competitor", added High. After the injury that shortened his soccer season, he came back in January to add another dimension to the Statesman Track & Field team. "I am looking for Max to duplicate his indoor success, by finishing in the top eight of his event, despite all he has been through he should do really well at nationals", stated High.

The Statesmen track team willl continue to train in preparation for the NJCAA Track and Field Nationals in Mesa, Arizona May 15-16, 2014
