RICHARD BLAND RECEIVE POSITIVE RESULTS FROM FALL OPENER

Dinwiddie, VA, September 15, 2013-In their first ever softball appearance, Richard Bland proved to be competitive. The Statesmen rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning to overcome the Patriots 11-8, before falling in the second game 5-3.

Most of the team were battling not only the Patriots, but butterflies as the roster made up mostly of freshmen were entering their first ever collegiate game. The first game was dead even until Amberly Alston smashed the ball into deep left center to bring in a run, and from there the rally began. Additional runs were drove in by Sierra Ford and McKenzie Love. The Statesmen were able to hold on despite Patriots rally of three runs in the final inning that fell short leaving the victory for the Statesmen after the first game.

The second game featured Ayannah Bowman-Williams who lead the Statesmen with three hits, two runs and an RBI. The freshmen showed her speed and ability to get on base in sprinter like fashion. The Patriots to advantage of their early lead and were able to hold off the Statesmen for the win. Richard Bland was able to add a run in the final two innings, however it was not enough. The Statesmen even their fall record to 1-1.

The Statesmen will play again Friday, September 20, 2013 hosting Chesapeake College (MD) with two games at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The games will be played at the Dinwiddie Sportsplex, in Dinwiddie, VA.
