SOFTBALL DROPS TWO ON THE ROAD TO WV WESLEYAN AND VIRGINIA TECH

Blacksburg, VA, October 13, 2013-Richard Bland traveled to Blacksburg, VA to take on West Virginia Wesleyan in the first of two games on Virginia Tech's campus. Despite being unable to practice all week due to inclement weather, the Statesmen were able to push two runs across home plate against a very successful Division II softball program.  RBC was held to only three hits in the game, a single by Sophomore Sierra Ford while Toria Arnett and Meredith Lee both had doubles in the game. Ford also had a double against the Hokies in the second and final game of the day and commanded outfield with defensive plays in center field. Other highlights from the Virginia Tech game included a diving catch by Lindsay Varga, and hits from Ayannah Bowman and Krysten Davis.

Despite the losses, RBC showed great signs offensively and defensively. Quality at bats, walks, and impressive defensive plays against 4-year institutions are all positives to take into the last weekend of competition for the team. The Statesmen will travel for the last away home against Radford University starting at 1pm. RBC will then play the club softball team from Radford at 3pm.
