RICHARD BLAND SPLITS WITH SOUTHEASTERN

PETERSBURG, VA, March 15, 2014-Richard Bland beat Southeastern CC 7-2 in seven innings on Saturday at Statesman Field behind Mary Latham, who went 2-3, while singling in the first and sixth innings.

McKenzie Love held down the circle while bagging the win for Statesmen. Love pitched seven innings and allowed no earned runs and only 4 hits.

The Statesmen never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring two runs on a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Latham.

The Statesmen had two-run rallies in the second inning and the third. In the second, the Statesmen scored on an error, bringing home Ayannah Bowman-Williams.

Southeastern CC scored two runs in the top of the third to cut its deficit to two. An RBI double by Southeastern and a passed ball gave SCC life. Finally, Love induced an inning-ending ground out.

After a quick strike from Southeastern CC, Richard Bland responded with two runs in the third. The Statesmen scored on an error and a sacrifice fly by Bowman-Williams.

The Statesmen dropped game 2 behind pitcher, Tara Heatwole, losing the game 5-2 in 7 innings.

After an error in the 3rd inning, the SCC squad managed to push across 3 runs to take the lead 3-1. The Statesmen battled behind Heatwole who allowed 3 earned runs, struck out 6 and had an RBI at the plate offensively, but it was not enough as the Statesmen only pushed another run in in the 6th inning after Taylor Slate hit an infield single and advanced to second base on a throwing error. Designated player Meredith Lee sacrificed to put Slate in scoring position on 3rd base and later scored on a fielders choice hit by Bowman-Williams.

Slate would finish the day at the plate going 3 for 3 highlighting the Statesmen offense.

RBC travels to Rappahannock tomorrow to play a doubleheader and returns home on March 22nd to play Herkimer CC.
