SATESMEN DEFEATS WAKE TECH IN TWO; OFFENSES PROVES TO BE TOO MUCH

PETERSBURG, VA, April 2, 2014- Mary Latham had two extra base hits, helping RBC Statesmen to a 9-5 victory over Wake Tech CC on Wednesday at RBC.

She homered in the second inning and tripled in the fourth inning.

McKenzie Love got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She allowed one run over three innings. She struck out three, walked none and surrendered three hits.

RBC batters Ayannah Bowman-WilliamsSierra FordKrysten Davis and Latham combined for seven hits and five RBIs.

Overall the Statesmen gathered nine runs in six innings, walked four times and only struck out twice.

Latham later took the mound and put away the final 12 outs to record the save.

Richard Bland didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the first inning when it scored on an RBI double by Davis and an error.

The Statesmen piled on four more runs in the bottom of the second. Latham's three-run blast got things going, plating Ford and Love. That was followed up by Amberly Alston's single, bringing home Davis.

Three Wake Tech CC runs crossed the plate in the top half of the fourth, making the score 7-4. 

Richard Bland added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Bowman-Williams singled, plating Taylor Slate to start the inning.

GAME TWO RESULTS

RBC jumped out to an early lead on Wake Tech CC and captured a 15-3 victory.

Eleven runs in the first three innings allowed RBC to put the game away early.

A double by Sierra Ford and a two-run home run by Mary Latham during the first inning and a two-run home run by Taylor Slate, a single by Sierra, a two-run double by Krysten Davis, an RBI double by Amberly Alston, and an RBI single byTara Heatwole in the second inning fueled RBC Statesmen's offense early.

RBC Statesmen hit three home runs in the win. Additional home runs for RBC Statesmen came when Sierra homered in the third inning.

 

Latham racked up three RBIs on three hits for RBC Statesmen while Slate ended up with 4 RBIs.

 

Heatwole got the win for RBC Statesmen. She allowed three runs over five innings, striking out five, and gave up only four hits.
