SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA--The Richard Bland College of William & Mary softball team swept its doubleheader against Harford Community College on Wednesday morning. The Statesmen run-ruled Harford in both games with scores of 10-0 and 9-0.
The Statesmen are now 4-11 on the season, while Harford falls to 0-13. RBC continues its play during Spring Break, next facing USC Union in doubleheader action on Friday, March 8 at 12 pm and 2 pm in South Carolina.
FIRST GAME
Freshman Kiara Toler threw a shutout to lead Richard Bland College past Harford 10-0 on Wednesday morning. Sophomore Allison Jarrett led the Statesmen to victory by driving in five runs. She went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a double in the fifth and a single in the sixth. RBC got in a hitting groove in the fifth inning putting up five runs. Jarrett, freshman Madison Kelly, and sophomore Katie Haney all sent runners across the plate to collect RBIs. Harford tried to start a rally after Pfaff hit a double but failed to keep the momentum going. Toler threw an astonishing game only allowing two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking one. Jarrett racked up three hits to lead the team. RBC was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error with freshman Teri Jackson making the most plays with seven.
SECOND GAME
Sophomore Joana Holland threw a no-hitter to shutout Harford and led the Statesmen to victory with a score of 9-0. Holland struck out nine to complete her no-hitter. RBC came together as a unit and had multiple people produce RBIs. Sophomore Mary Simms, sophomore Skyler Bagnall, Jarrett, sophomore Kayla Hand, sophomore Taylor Bilyard, Haney, and sophomore Jez Chitty all produced one RBI for the Statesmen. Holland threw a breathtaking no-hitter with zero hits and zero runs and only two walks. Harford failed to adjust to Holland's pitching resulting in no hits. The Statesmen was once again sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
