Softball Splits Games At Home, 2-16, 6-0

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA--The Richard Bland College of William & Mary softball team spilt its games on Saturday afternoon. The Statesmen fell to Brookdale Community College 2-16 in the first game and won their second game against Paul D. Camp Community College 6-0.

The Statesmen improve to 9-12 on the season, while Paul D. Camp falls to 7-3 and Brookdale improves to 4-0.  RBC will next play on Sunday, March 17 at CCBC Catonsville at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.

GAME ONE

The Statesmen watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 16-2 defeat to Brookdale. RBC struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Brookdale. Ten runs were scored against the Statesmen in the fourth inning. Freshman Kiara Toler took the defeat for Richard Bland. Over three and a third innings, she allowed 16 hits and 16 runs while striking out two and walking one. Freshman Teri Jackson led RBC with two hits in three at-bats.

GAME TWO

The Statesmen recovered in the second game to defeat Paul D Camp 6-0. RBC fired up their offense in the second inning. Sophomore Taylor Bilyard singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Sophomore Megan Vincent was the winning pitcher for Richard Bland. She allowed one hit and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking one. Sophomore Joanna Holland threw the sixth inning in relief from the bullpen. Bilyard had a home run in the fourth inning. The Statesmen were able to collect ten hits in the game. Bilyard, sophomore Skyler Bagnall, sophomore Allison Jarrett, and sophomore Jez Chitty each had multiple hits for RBC.  Chitty, Jarrett, Bagnall, and Bilyard each managed two hits to lead the team. Chitty lead the team in stolen bases with three.
