Curtis, Martinez Go Yard In Conference Sweep

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Softball team moves to 2-2 in conference play, 2-2 overall after the conference sweep over Wake Tech Community College Friday afternoon.

 

In game 1, Richard Bland fired up the offense in the first inning. Casey Hart drove in Alyssa Martinez on a hard ground ball to center field to get things started for the Statesmen. Richard Bland racked up 10 hits in the game. Hart, Emmalee Lawson, and Erin Miles each had multiple hits for the Statesmen. Lily Curtis went yard in the fifth inning to push Richard Bland to a run rule victory in the fifth inning. Defensively, the Statesmen were perfect with zero errors. Casey Hart was the winning pitcher for Richard Bland. The lefthander went five innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out two and walking zero.

 

In the first inning of game 2, Alyssa Martinez got the offense started with a solo homerun. Alexis Brandt followed and would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base. Brandt drove in five runners on three hits including a double in the second, a single in the second, and a single in the fourth, to lead Richard Bland past Wake Tech. Richard Bland secured the victory thanks to 10 runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught by the Statesmen was led by Brandt, Casey Hart, Emmalee Lawson, Lily Curtis, Tabitha Fisher, and Alyssa Martinez, all driving in runs in the inning. Emma Fleming led at the plate with four hits on four at bats. The Statesmen racked up 19 hits in the game. Erin Miles pitched the Statesmen to victory. The righty surrendered one run on six hits over five innings, striking out eight.

 

Richard Bland softball next travels to Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute on Saturday, March 12th for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
