Red Hawks Claw Statesmen

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Softball team moves to 2-6 in conference play, 2-6 overall after traveling to Catawba Valley Community College this afternoon.

 

In game 1, the Red Hawks got things started in the second inning, scoring three runs to take the lead and would never look back. The Statesmen offense struggled to find their groove and would end up falling 8-0 in 6 innings. Alyssa Martinez and Emma Fleming had one hit each to lead Richard Bland on offense. Facing 22 batters, Maggie Linthicum took the loss in the circle going four innings, allowing seven hits, two walks, and one strike out. Lily Curtis came in for relief allowing two hits, three walks and one strikeout.

 

In game 2, Richard Bland continued to struggle offensively. The Red Hawks put two across in the bottom of the first to take an early lead and would add one additional run in the third to take the 3-0 lead through six innings. Emma Fleming hit a two bagger to setup a scoring threat in the top of the seventh. Casey Hart followed with a rbi single to right field to cut the deficit to two, but it would not be enough. Erin Miles took the loss facing 27 batters while allowing five hits, three walks, and striking out three.

 

Richard Bland softball next hosts Surry Community College on Friday, March 18th in a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
