Softball Grabs Lead In Fifth Inning To Split With Patriots

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Softball team moves to 3-9 in conference play and overall after hosting Patrick and Henry Community College this afternoon.

 

In game 1, Richard Bland watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 4-2 loss. Patrick and Henry CC got things started in the first inning when an error scored one run for the Patriots. Casey Hart led Richard Bland with two hits in three at bats. Erin Miles took the loss for the Statesmen. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and four runs while striking out five.

 

In game 2, Richard Bland nabbed the lead late in the game in a 10-6 victory. Richard Bland trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Lily Curtis singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Curtis went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Richard Bland in hits. Casey Hart started the game on the mound for the Statesmen. Hart allowed four hits and four runs over one-third of an inning, walking zero. Erin Miles earned the win allowing six hits and two runs over six innings, striking out four. Maggie Linthicum threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

 

Richard Bland softball next hosts Onondaga Community College out of Syracuse, NY today, March 21st. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3pm.
