Softball Jumps Out To Early Lead In Sweep Over Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Softball team moves to 9-11 in conference play, 11-11 overall after hosting Fayetteville Technical Community College this afternoon.

 

In game 1, Richard Bland blew out Fayetteville Tech 9-1. Richard Bland got things moving in the first inning, when an error scored one run for Richard Bland. The Statesmen tallied four runs in the third inning. The rally was led by doubles by Erin Miles and Gracie Fisher. Miles pitched Richard Bland to victory. The righthander lasted six innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out two. Richard Bland racked up 12 hits in the game. Lily Curtis, Alexis Brandt, Casey Hart, and Gracie Fisher each collected multiple hits. Richard Bland did not commit a single error in the field. Gracie Fisher had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.

 

In game 2, Richard Bland defeated Fayetteville Tech 10-4 thanks to a strong start. Richard Bland scored on a double by Lily Curtis in the first inning and a groundout by Jahaira Medrano in the second inning. Richard Bland pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second Medrano grounded out, scoring one run. Richard Bland notched five runs in the sixth inning. Casey Hart, Erin Miles, Alyssa Martinez, and Gracie Fisher all drove in runs in the frame. Hart got the win for Richard Bland. The lefty surrendered four runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking one. The Statesmen tallied 19 hits. Martinez, Curtis, Alexis Brandt, Hart, Fisher, and Emma Fleming each had multiple hits for Richard Bland. Hart, Brandt, Curtis, and Martinez each collected three hits to lead the offense.

 

Richard Bland softball next hosts Florence-Darlington Technical College tomorrow, April 23rd beginning at 1pm.
