Softball Drops Single Game to Cardinals

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team moves to 1-3 overall and after traveling to Martinsville, Virginia for a JUCO Jamboree Wednesday afternoon. Richard Bland fell to the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville in their single competition on the day.

 

The Statesmen fell 3-10 despite out-hitting the Cardinals, 10 to nine. CCBC Catonsville got on the board in the top of the first inning and would add to their lead in the second before Richard Bland added two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Brookelynne Winterson seized on her opportunities, leading Richard Bland with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Jessica Taggart and Madison Nixon each collected multiples hits for the Statesmen. Richard Bland turned one double play in the game on defense. McKynzi Dawson led things off in the circle for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher surrendered four hits and six runs over four innings, striking out six and walking six. Sara Graham came in in relief. Graham threw surrendered five hits and four runs over three innings, striking out nine and walking two.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team has a quick turnaround heading to Bryant & Stratton College on Friday, February 23rd and Saturday, February 24th for their three game series with the Bobcats. Friday's doubleheader is set to begin at 12pm.
