Statesmen Take Two From Eagles

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Softball team moves to 11-14 overall, 9-13 in conference play after traveling to Wake Technical Community College over the weekend for the three-game conference series.

 

In game one, Richard Bland lost to Wake Tech 3-5 Saturday afternoon. Wake Tech opened the scoring in the first on a home run to right field, scoring two runs. The Eagles homered in the third, scoring three additional runs. Shelby Godfrey led the Statesmen with two hits in four at bats. Gabriyll Marshall, Janiya Washington, and Godfrey each drove in one run for the Statesmen. Sara Graham stepped in the circle first for Richard Bland. The righty gave up four hits and five runs over two innings, striking out one and walking four. Taylor Green took the loss for Richard Bland, throwing four innings, surrendering zero runs on two hits, striking out six and walking one.

 

In game two, Ashley Beamon drove in five runs on two hits to lead Richard Bland past Wake Tech 14-4 on Sunday. Beamon hit a home run to left field in the sixth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring two. Richard Bland opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to two singles. Richard Bland first got on the board when Elexyona Moore singled, scoring one run. Wake Tech tied the game up in the bottom of the second thanks to two singles. Richard Bland flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring five runs on one hit to take a 8-3 lead. Richard Bland scored six runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Brookelynne Winterson doubled, scoring two runs, McKynzi Dawson singled, scoring one run, and Beamon homered to left field, scoring three runs. Moore earned the win for Richard Bland. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and four runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking three.

 

In game three, Richard Bland won big over the Eagles, 11-3. Richard Bland got on the board in the first inning after Taylor Green doubled, scoring one run. Wake tech tied the game at one in the bottom of the first on a fielder's choice. An error gave the Eagles the lead in the bottom of the second. Richard Bland captured the lead, 4-2 in the top of the third when Shelby Godfrey tripled, scoring two runs, and Jessica Taggart singled, scoring one run. Green and Elexyona Moore each collected two hits for Richard Bland. Beamon paced the Statesmen with three walks. McKynzi Dawson earned the win for the Statesmen. The right-handed pitcher gave up five hits and three runs over four innings, striking out three and walking none. Green threw two innings of shutout ball. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out two and walking none.

 

The Richard Bland College softball team next hosts Southwest Virginia Community College for the three-game conference series on Saturday, April 20th and Sunday, April 21st. Games one and two will begin at 12pm and 2pm on Saturday, with game three at 12pm Sunday.
