Morgan Smith, a four-year starter on the four-time Rowan University NCAA Tournament softball team, and a recent graduate assistant coach at Eastern Mennonite University, has been named head softball coach at Richard Bland College of William & Mary today. The announcement was made by Scott Newton, Director of Student Life & Athletics.

Smith, who becomes the fourth coach in RBC history, spent last season working under EMU coach J.D. McCurdy as a graduate assistant and recruiting coordinator. Prior to EMU she served in the same capacity at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri.

"I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity at Richard Bland College to continue to learn and grow as a head coach for the Statesmen softball team, "says Smith. "I am excited to be able to teach and impact female students-athletes about the game of softball and life."

A native of Millsboro, Delaware, Smith was a First-Team NCAA Division III All-America selection at Rowan. She graduated as Rowan's all-time leader in career doubles (61) and walks (89), and holds single-season records for doubles (22) and RBI (62). A four-year starter, Smith finished her career with a .389 batting average, and helped led Rowan to the NCAA Division III Tournament each of her four seasons. In two of those seasons, Rowan advanced to the National Championship Series.

In addition to her All-America status, Smith was an NFCA All-Region Team all four years, and earned All-Tournament Regional Teams selection four years. While at Rowan, Smith earned the Joy Solomen Leadership Award and was a Schutt Sports/NFCA Player of the Year Watchlist.

Smith is a 2018 graduate of Rowan and earned her Bachelor of Science in General Studies with a minor in Education. She earned a Master's in Organizational Leadership from EMU.
