Women’s Basketball Defeats Trojans in Conference Action

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team traveled to Fayetteville Technical Community College Tuesday evening, for a conference battle. After completion of the contest, the Statesmen moved to 2-4 overall, 2-2 in conference play.

 

Fayetteville Tech took an early, four-point lead with an opening layup and baseline jumper. DaNiya McClure was fouled after the Trojans' second field goal, and put the Statesmen on the board, sinking both free throws. McClure was fouled quickly again and hit one of two, to close in on Trojans narrow lead, 3-4. Richard Bland took the 5-4 lead on a jumper in the 4th minute of the game, followed by a Trojan three pointer to regain the lead. Richard Bland hit a layup to tie the game at seven, and continued to battle through multiple lead changes throughout the first quarter, and remainder of the game. After one quarter, Richard Bland led 18-13, and held a two-point lead into halftime. The Trojans came out strong in the third period, scoring 20 points, but the Statesmen prevailed and outscored the Trojans by seven in the final quarter, to hold on for the 71-64 win.

 

Aryauna Brent led the way for the Statesmen with 23 points, five assists, three steals, two rebounds, and one block. DaNiya McClure and Ni'Ana Hill added 14 points each, as well as totaling 16 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals together. Off the bench, Keimare Gray had eight points and six rebounds in the win. Khamaya Earley led the boards with 10, and also added six points for the Statesmen. Ma'Liyah Hodges also added six points for Richard Bland.

 

Richard Bland shot 33.3% from the field, 22.2% from the perimeter, and 52.0% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next travels to Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, November 23rd for a 2pm conference matchup with the Flying Eagles.
