SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team travel to Louisburg College Thursday evening, for a Region 10 conference battle. After completion of the contest, the Statesmen moved to 3-5 overall, 3-5 in conference play.
Out of the gate, Richard Bland was ready to roll. The Statesmen lost the tip-off, but forced a turnover and were fouled during their shot. Richard Bland hit both free throws to take the first lead, 2-0, of the game. The Hurricanes outscored Richard Bland 13-19 through one period, and 14-18 through the second, to hold a 10-point, 27-37 lead at the half. Third quarter struggles for the Statesmen allowed the Hurricanes to knock down 20 points, and carry their momentum into the fourth quarter. The Statesmen outscored Louisburg 22-14 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Hurricanes were victorious, 59-71.
DaNiya McClure scored her second double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 boards on the day. Ni'Ana Hill chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Aryauna Brent paced the offense with 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, five steals, and three blocks, while Ma'Liyah Hodges and Mya Mewborn added four points each. Khamaya Earley and Ava Meanor had two points apiece, and Keimare Gray one rebound in the loss.
Richard Bland shot 29.9% from the field, 15.4% from the perimeter, and 61.1% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next hosts Montgomery College (MD) on Saturday, December 7th in a non-conference contest. Tip-ff is set for 2pm.
