SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team traveled to Cape Fear Community College on Friday, February 21st and Brunswick Community College on Saturday, February 22nd for a full weekend of conference basketball. After completion of the conference contests, the Statesmen moved to 6-16 overall, 6-13 in conference play.
On Friday, the Statesmen took an early lead, 12-11, after the first period, but were stumped in the second frame as they were outscored 5-28, to trail 17-39 at the break. Richard Bland added 11 points in the third quarter, and seven in the fourth, dropping the game 35-77 to the Sea Devils. DaNiya McClure led the way for the Statesme with 20 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and two assists. Aryauna Brent added eight points, three rebounds, and one assist, while Khamaya Earley totaled eight rebounds, four points, two steals, and one assist. Ni'Ana Hill chipped in with five rebounds and three points, and Ava Meanor four rebounds in the loss.
Richard Bland shot 27.1% from the field, 14.3% from the perimeter, and 53.5% from the charity stripe.
On Saturday, Richard Bland rebounded, scoring double-digits in all four quarters, to earn a 65-62 win over the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College. Aryauna Brent led the way with 20 points, four rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block in the game. McClure chipped in with her sixth double-double of the season tallying 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Off the bench, Hill grabbed 10 points and scored nine points, and Mya Mewborn eight points and four rebounds. Khamaya Earley added seven rebounds and five points, Ava Meanor seven rebounds and two points, and Ma'Liyah Hodges two points in the win.
Richard Bland shot 31.1% from the field, 35.3% from the perimeter, and 54.2% from the charity stripe.
The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Tuesday, February 25th in their final game of the regular season. The Statesmen will honor their four sophomores prior to the start of the game. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
