Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season with Sophomore Night Against Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team hosted Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Tuesday evening for sophomore night in their final game on the regular season. After completion of the conference contests, the Statesmen moved to 6-17 overall, 6-14 in conference play.

 

Prior to the start of the contest, the team recognized their four sophomores; DaNiya McClure, Aryauna Brent, Ma'Liyah Hodges, and Khamaya Earley for their efforts during their time at Richard Bland.

 

On Tuesday, the Statesmen came out strong only being outscored by one after one period. The Statesmen struggled to contain the Bobcats offense following the first period, allowing them to score 25 points in the second, 23 in the third, and 16 in the fourth. The Bobcats held a 30-40 lead at the break, but went on to earn the 57-79 conference victory.

 

Ma'Liyah Hodges led the way with 17 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Aryauna Brent trailed closely behind with 12 points, four rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks. Ni'Ana Hill tallied 11 points and seven rebounds, while DaNiya McClure had seven points and six rebounds. Khamaya Earley chipped in with six points and six rebounds, and Mya Mewborn and Ava Meanor had two points each.

 

Richard Bland shot 42.6% from the field, 38.5% from the perimeter, and 66.7% from the charity stripe.

 

The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team is awaiting their first opponent for the Region 10 Division II Tournament. The play in round will take place March 3rd or 4th at the higher seed, followed by the winners advancing to the next rounds which will take place at Cape Fear Community College next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
