Women’s Basketball Season Comes to a Close in Region Quarterfinals

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team hosted

#9 Catawba Valley Community College Monday evening for the opening round of the Region 10/South Atlantic District Tournament. Following their opening round win, the Statesmen traveled to Cape Fear Community College to take on the #1 Sea Devils in the Quarterfinal round. After completion of the contests, the women's basketball season came to an end, finishing at 7-18 overall, 6-14 in conference play.

On Monday, Richard Bland came out hot outscoring the Red Hawks 28-8 through the first 10 minutes of the game. The Statesmen added 14 more points in the second quarter, and led 42-25 at the half. The Statesmen came out of halftime with high momentum and added 26 and 21 points in the final two quarters, coasting to an 89-66 victory in the opening round of the Region 10 Tournament.

DaNiya McClure led the way for Richard Bland with 30 points on the night, six rebounds, four steals, three assists, and one block. Aryauna Brent and Ni'Ana Hill posted 17 points, eight rebounds and two steals each in the game. Ma'Liyah Hodges chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds, while Khamaya Earley added seven rebounds and five points. Ava Meanor tallied six rebounds and five points and Mya Mewborn four points in the win.

Richard Bland shot 47.8% from the field, 44.4% from the perimeter, and 84.0% from the charity stripe.

On Thursday, Richard Bland battled through the first two quarters of the game, making for multiple lead changes. Coming out of halftime, the Statesmen struggled to continue their groove, allowing the Sea Devils to outscore them by nine and 10 points in the final two frames, ending in a 39-63 loss for Richard Bland in the Region 10 Quarterfinals.

McClure closed the season with her seventh double-double on the year, grabbing 13 boards and scoring 12 points. Aryauna Brent tallied 10 points, four rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and one assist. Ni'Ana Hill chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the game. Khamaya Earley posted 13 rebounds and three points for the Statesmen, while Ma'Liyah Hodges had five points, and Ava Meanor one.

Richard Bland shot 24.2% from the field and 60.0% from the charity stripe.
