Women's Soccer Inaugural Season Ends on a High Note

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William & Mary women's soccer team brought a great challenge against Wake Technical Community College Monday, October 28, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Even with the Statesmen's will to succeed, WTCC led 7-2.

With this result, the Statesmen wrapped up their inaugural season with an inspiring record for a first-year program, 5-7-1. Even though the Statesmen fell to Wake Technical Community College, they certainly presented a challenge.

After tough outcomes in the first half, Alexia Spencer scores the team's first goal of the game, with an assist by Bethany Ferguson 12 minutes into the second half. The next goal secured for the Statesmen, by A. Spencer, was the result of a penalty kick at the 68th-minute mark.

As the team travels back to the home of the Statesmen, they will return with a sense of pride as they reflect on the precedent they have set as Richard Bland College of William and Mary women's soccer team members. Together, they represent the first-ever women's soccer team, and as such, they pulled together a winning ratio of more than 40%, secured a home game record of 4-3, and collectively secured 32 goals in the season with a total of 18 assists. To start out with this impressive first-year record for the women's soccer program, the RBC community could not be more proud.

In lieu of the teams last game, assistant coach Meghan Mauzy had this to say: "The girls had an amazing run this season" She continued, "With it being their first-ever season, Damien [head soccer coach] and I could not be more proud of the hard work and effort that went into the success the program has had this year."
