Women’s Soccer Defeats Louisburg in Home Opener

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's soccer team hosted Louisburg College Wednesday afternoon for their second conference meeting of the season. In the game, the Statesmen won, 3-1, moving to 2-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 in conference play.
Richard Bland got ahead right out of the gate in the first seven seconds of the game, when Grace Pope found Sara Sparks off the kickoff for a Sparks goal. The Statesmen held a 1-0 lead heading into the half. In the 54th minute, Richard Bland struck again, this time, Pope tallied one of her own assisted by Ashly Carabali, to take the lead to two. In the 76th minute, Pope found Jenna Autry for an Autry goal to take the lead, 3-0. Louisburg scored one goal in the last ten minutes of the game, but it was not enough, as the Statesmen coasted to victory.
Pope finished the day with one goal and two assists. She also led the team with seven total shots. The Statesmen had 19 total shots, 12 shots on goal on the day. Richard Bland earned two corner kicks in the game. Emily Orn played all 90 minutes in net, behind a strong defense who stopped all of the Hurricanes' attempts of getting close to the goal.
The Richard Bland College women's soccer team next travels to Region 10 Division I opponent, USC Lancaster on Friday, September 13th. Kickoff is slated for 1pm.
