Richard Bland Falls At Home To Lenoir (N.C.) 3-0

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College dropped a 3-0 women's volleyball decision to Region X member Lenoir (N.C.) Community College on Friday night at Statesman Hall.  Freshman Cassi Jencik/Midlothian led the host Statesmen (1-10) with five kills and five blocks, while sophomore Alexis Lyons/Prince George added 17 assists against the visiting Lancers (6-5), who took the sets by scores of 25-8, 25-23 and 25-21.  Richard Bland will play Region X opponents Cape Fear Community College (11 a.m.) and Bryant & Stratton College (1 p.m.) on Saturday, September 30, at Brunswick Community College in Bolivia, North Carolina. 

In addition to the efforts of Jencik and Lyons, freshman Caitlin Stout/Dinwiddie added 13 digs and one service ace, classmate Emma Eggleton/Chesterfield contributed five kills, three blocks and two digs, and freshman Taylor Laxton/Wakefield had four kills, one block and one service ace.

Set 1: Richard Bland scored the first point en route to a 4-2 lead before Lenoir rallied ahead 6-4.  The Statesmen scored the next point to make it 6-5, but the Lancers closed the opening set with a 19-3 run to win 25-8.

Set 2: Richard Bland scored the first point again and kept things much closer in a back-and-forth set.  Lenoir led 10-7 before the Statesmen rallied with six unanswered points to lead 13-10.  The hosts still led 15-14, before the Lancers took the lead for good at 16-15, and opened a 23-18 advantage, only to see Richard Bland battle back to within 24-23.  Lenoir, however, scored the next point to win 25-23.

Set 3: Richard Bland scored the first two points, taking leads of 6-2 and 9-5, before Lenoir rallied and took its first lead at 11-10.  The Statesmen, however, fought hard once-again and had leads of 13-11, 14-12 and 15-13 before the Lancers took the lead again at 16-15.  It was tied for the final time at 20-20 before Lenoir went ahead for good at 21-20 toward the 25-21 win.

Following a break in the schedule, Richard Bland will play at Regent University on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. in Virginia Beach.
