Richard Bland Falls On Sophomore Night To Bryant & Stratton 3-1

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College dropped a 3-1 women's volleyball decision to Region X East Division member Bryant & Stratton College on Tuesday night at Statesman Hall. Freshman Avery Munden/Chesterfield led the host Statesmen (2-15) with 11 kills and six digs, while sophomore Alexis Lyons/Prince George added 33 assists and three blocks against the visiting Bobcats (6-14), who took the sets by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-11.
Richard Bland also received solid efforts from freshmen Caitlin Stout/Dinwiddie with 13 digs and two service aces, Hollie Hill/Buchanan had eight kills, one dig and one assist, Kendall Clark/Virginia Beach added three kills, one dig and four service aces, Cassi Jencik/Midlothian contributed three blocks, one kill and one assist, Taylor Laxton/Wakefield had three kills and one blocks, and Emma Eggleton/Chesterfield added six kills.
Set 1: Richard Bland fell behind 2-0 before storming back with a 16-2 run to lead 16-8, much to the delight of the boisterous home crowd. Bryant & Stratton rallied with seven unanswered points to close to within 16-15, but the Statesmen battled back to lead 20-16 and 23-19 toward the 25-22 set win.
Set 2: Richard Bland fell behind 7-2 before rallying back to tie it at 9-9. Bryant & Stratton went back ahead 15-9, but once-again the Statesmen fought back to within 18-15. The Bobcats, however, used a 7-1 run for the 25-16 set win.
Set 3: Richard Bland trailed 8-4 before rallying to take a 14-12 advantage. It was tied at 15-15 before Bryant & Stratton took a 19-16 lead. The Statesmen battled tough and tied it at 20-20 and 23-23 before the Bobcats closed out for the 25-23 set win.
Set 4: Richard Bland led 5-4 before Bryant & Stratton rallied with a 16-1 run to lead 20-6. The Statesmen were able to get within 22-10, but the Bobcats finished for the 25-11 set win and match victory.
It was the final regular season home match this season and Sophomore Night for Alexis Lyons, Sara Gardner/Chester and McKenzi Thorne/Chester. The local trio was recognized during a special pre-match ceremony.
Richard Bland concludes its inaugural campaign with a pair of matches at Wake Technical (N.C.) Community College on Friday, October 20 in Raleigh, North Carolina … versus West Division Surry (N.C.) Community College at 4:30 p.m. and against West Division Wake Tech at 6 p.m.
