Two Up, Two Down for Volleyball

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- The women's volleyball team of Richard Bland College of William & Mary completed a spotless day after not dropping a set in their two matches against Southwest Virginia Community College on Saturday, winning 3-0 twice.

The team will next play back to back games on Monday, 9/23, and Tuesday, 9/24, against Bryant & Stratton and Regent, completing their stretch of five games in five days.  With the two wins today, the Statesmen now are back to an even record, with hopes of going over that hump next week.

In the first game, the Statesmen showed that they meant business.  They won each set convincingly and even held the opposed team under double-digits in the second set.  Sierra Spade had her best defensive game of the season, statistically, digging up 17 balls in the first match.  Anna Ney had 23 assists, 2 aces, and 2 digs while Ayanna Swan put away 9 kills and 4 digs.

The second game saw much of the same from RBC for the first two sets, with the team winning each by a comfortable margin.  In the third set, Southwest Virginia would put up a fight and even had the opportunity to put the set away for them, but Heather Phelps was not about to let that happen.  She played big down the final stretch and was a perfect 1.000 on her hitting, totaling 10 kills from the middle, along with 2 blocks and 3 aces.  Jordan Walter was key in setting the hitters in the match as she led the team in assists with 21 assists with 2 aces and 3 digs as well.  Ayanna Swan also added 9 kills, 3 aces, and 5 digs.
