Statesmen Women's Volleyball Fights Hard in NY

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Richard Bland College of William & Mary's women volleyball team finishes their long week of away games Saturday after going 1-3 in the Monroe College Volleyball Invitational.

After this weekend's games, RBC is now 13-11, with still much time to improve their record before the playoffs.  They will face off against Bryant & Stratton in their long-awaited return to Statesmen Hall at 7 pm on Tuesday.  As the team went 1-3 over the weekend, the Statesmen will look to get back on track and regain their composure with this next match.

This weekend the team opened up their tournament with a familiar opponent in Montgomery College out of Maryland.  The matchup was their third meeting of the season.  The match was hard-fought by the Statesmen as they would rally in the third to capture the set after dropping the first two.  That momentum carried over into the fourth set but would ultimately fall just short for the team as Montgomery would finish off the match in the same set.

The second match faced RBC against Harford Community College in their first matchup of the season.  Bland came to play in this game as they would take the momentum gained in the last match and use it to their advantage.  The team went on to win three sets straight and close out the match against Harford, 3-0.

The third and first match of the second day matched the Statesmen against a first-time opponent in Grand Rapids Community College.  The Statesmen were not about to let the unfamiliarity with their opponents be their downfall.  The team fought hard in each set against the Raiders but were outed in each, dropping the match in straight sets.

The final match of the day saw the host team, Monroe College, on the other side of the net.  As Monroe had previously beaten the Statesmen at home in a match where RBC was not at its best, Richard Bland was not going to let effort be their downfall for sure.  The team would hustle and grind for three sets against the home team but would come up short in all three sets played.
