Women’s Volleyball Grabs Two Wins on Opening Day

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team opened the season at home Tuesday afternoon as they host a tri-match with the Lady Senators of Walters State Community College and the Patriots of Patrick & Henry Community College. In the opening match, the Statesmen earned a 3-1 victory over Walters State. In the final match of the day, the Statesmen defeated the Patriots 3-0, moving to 2-0 overall.
In match one, Richard Bland battled the Lady Senators through four sets; 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, and 25-22, and came out victorious 3-1. Taelin Connolley led the attack with 21 kills in the match, followed by Lovina Teel with 20, and Gabrielle Meador with 13. Alexis Scipione was credited with 55 assists and 16 digs for Richard Bland, while Connolley, Teel, and Phoebe Heath tabbed 12 digs. Meador, Scipione, and Teel also had three service aces each.
In match two, Richard Bland coasted to a 3-0 victory; 25-9, 25-11, and 25-11 over the Patriots. Teel led the attack with 11 kills, Connolley and Meador six each, and Aliyah Millner three for Richard Bland. Connolley also added eight service aces and five digs while Meador had two digs and two blocks. Averi Hawtin tallied 22 assists and five digs for the Statesmen.
The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team next travels to Perrysburg, Ohio for the Owens Community College Tournament this Friday and Saturday, August 30th and 31st. Richard Bland will take on St. Johns River State College at 10am and Vincennes University at 1:30pm on Friday. On Saturday, the Statesmen will face the host, Owens Community College at 10:45am, and Parkland College at 4pm Saturday.
