Women’s Volleyball Goes 3-1 at Owens Invitational

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #5 Richard Bland College women's volleyball team traveled to Perrysburg, Ohio Friday and Saturday afternoon to participate in the Owens Community College Invitational. After their final match in the tournament, the Richard Bland College volleyball team moved to 5-1 overall. On day one of the invitational, the Statesmen faced St. Johns River State College and Vincennes University. On day two, Richard Bland took on Owens Community College and Parkland College.

 

In match one, #5 Richard Bland earned a hard fought reverse sweep victory over the Vikings of St. Johns River State College 3-2; 13-25, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23, and 16-14. Gabrielle Meador led the attack with 19 kills, followed by Lovina Teel with 16, and Taelin Connolley with 14. Alexis Scipione was credited with 48 assists, 10 digs, and two service aces in the match. Phoebe Heath added 16 digs, two service aces, and one assist, while Teel and Connolley added 13 and 12 digs for Richard Bland. The team totaled 67 digs, 54 kills, 52 assists, 11 service aces, and two blocks in the match.

 

In match two, #5 Richard Bland defeated Vincennes University 3-2, with set scores of 25-18, 22-25, 10-25, 25-20, and 15-12. Teel led the attack with 25 kills in the match, while Connolley had 15, and Meador 11. Scipione assisted on 50 occasions and had 11 digs and four service aces in the win. Heath tallied 22 digs, two assists, and one service ace, and Connolley 14 digs, four service aces, and one assist for the Statesmen. Richard Bland totaled 61 digs, 56 kills, 53 assists, and 15 service aces.

 

In match three, #5 Richard Bland coasted to a 3-0 victory; 25-12, 25-19, and 25-15 over the hosts, Owens Community College Express. Meador led the attack with 17 kills, Connolley 13, Teel nine, Peyton Ostenson three, and Scipione one for Richard Bland. Connolley added 17 digs, Heath 16, Teel 14, and Meador 12 in the win. Scipione added 39 assists, six digs, and three service aces in the win.

 

In match four, the #5 Statesmen battled with #3 Parkland College, falling 0-3; 22-25, 18-25, and 20-25. Taelin Connolley led the way with 15 kills, while Gabrielle Meador was credited with nine, Teel five, and Scipione and Rachel Pickens one each. Scipione added 28 assists, eight digs, and one service ace, while Heath tallied 13 digs and one assist in the match.

 

The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team next hosts Pitt Community College on Wednesday, September 4th at 6pm, followed by the College of Southern Maryland on September 5th.
