Statesmen Go 2-0 at Raptors Tri-Match

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #5 Richard Bland College women's volleyball team traveled to Montgomery College (MD) for the Raptors tri-match Saturday afternoon, where the Statesmen played two non-conference matches. After completion of the evening, the Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moved to 9-1 overall on the season.

 

In match one, Richard Bland took on Penn State York, defeating the Lions 3-0. The set scores were as follows: 25-13, 25-17, and 25-16. Lovina Teel, Gabrielle Meador, and Taelin Connolley led the attack with 13, 12, and 10 kills in the match. Meador and Connolley also added six digs a piece. Averi Hawtin assisted on 34 occasions and was credited with eight digs, one service ace and one kill, while Phoebe Heath tallied five digs, two assists, and two service aces.

 

In match two, Richard Bland took on the host, Montgomery College, defeating the Raptors 3-0. The set scores were as follows: 25-15, 25-19, and 25-17. Gabrielle Meador led the Statesmen attack with 12 kills. Meador also added five digs, one assist, one service ace, and one block. Taelin Connolley and Lovina Teel followed closely behind with nine kills each. Connolley also notched seven digs and two service aces. Aliyah Millner and Rachel Pickens also had three kills each. Averi Hawtin was credited with 26 assists and two service aces, while Phoebe Heath tallied 12 digs, three assists, and three service aces.

 

The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team next travels to Fayetteville Technical Community College for a tri-match against the Mustangs of Monroe University and Trojans of Fayetteville Tech on Friday, September 13th. The Statesmen play at 4pm and 6pm. They will then travel to Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, September 14th for the Sea Devils tri-match, to face Cape Fear at 11am and USC Lancaster at 1pm.
