Statesmen Earn Three Sweeps Last Week, Push Win Streak to 19

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The #6 Richard Bland College women's volleyball team traveled to Chesapeake, Virginia on Wednesday to face the Bobcats of Bryant & Stratton College (VA), and hosted a conference quad-match Saturday, taking on the Storm of Davidson-Davie Community College and the Titans of Guilford Technical Community College. After completion of the week, the Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moved to 24-1 overall, and 9-0 in conference play, and is currently on a 19-game win streak.

 

In the match on Wednesday, Richard Bland defeated Bryant & Stratton College (VA) in their ninth sweep in a row, with set scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-13. The Statesmen earned 40 kills on the day with Gabrielle Meador leading with 12, and Taelin Connolley and Lovina Teel 10 each. Aliyah Millner chipped in with five and Peyton Ostenson two for the Statesmen. Richard Bland total 25 digs on defense, with Teel leading with six, and Phoebe Heath and Alexis Scipione five each. Scipione also tallied 35 assists in the match, and Teel also added five service aces in the win.

 

In match one on Saturday, Richard Bland defeated Davidson-Davie Community College in their 10th sweep in a row, with set scores of 25-9, 25-16, and 25-20. Teel led the attack with 14 kills, and Meador and Connolley close behind with 10 each. The trio also contributed to 21 total digs in the match. Alexis Scipione tallied 25 assists, and Averi Hawtin 10 in the win. Scipione, Hawtin, and Connolley were also credited with three services aces each.

 

In match two on Saturday, Richard Bland defeated Guilford Technical Community College in their 11th sweep in a row, with set scores of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-6. Richard Bland totaled 40 kills, 37 assists, 31 digs, and 14 service aces in the win. Teel had 11 kills, Meador and Connolley nine each, Peyton Ostenson six, Aliyah Millner four, and Scipione one. Scipione also garnered 34 assists, four service aces, and four digs, while Phoebe Heath led the dig column with nine.

 

The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team next hosts Fayetteville Technical Community College on Friday, October 18th at 6pm. The team will host their sophomore day on Saturday, October 19th prior to their 12pm match against the Sea Devils of Cape Fear Community College.
