PETERSBURG, Va., (Feb. 9, 2016) – A challenging stretch of games continues for the Richard Bland College men's basketball team, which travels to No. 12 nationally-ranked Louisburg College on Wednesday evening in Region X Conference action.

Richard Bland (12-12, 8-6) will be looking to snap from two tightly-contested losses against Catawba Valley and Bryant & Stratton this past weekend. Louisburg (20-4, 12-1), last earned its 20th win of the season on Feb. 6 with a 72-59 win over Guilford Tech.

PREVIOUSLY VS. LOUISBURG COLLEGE: Played on January 13 in Petersburg, No. 10 nationally-ranked Louisburg fended off a second half comeback by the Statesmen to earn a 100-69 victory. The hot-shooting Hurricanes built a 51-31 halftime lead on 64 percent shooting from the field. But in front of a packed home crowd in RBC's annual Blackout Game, the Statesmen weren't about the let their rival get off easy, and made a furious comeback to draw within 62-59 with 11:17 to play. Then, the Hurricanes flipped the momentum in their favor and went on a 20-0 run over the next three minutes to build a 82-59 lead with 7:08 to play … Freshman forward Jordan Griggs led RBC with 17 points.
 

AGAINST LOUISBURG: Since bringing back basketball three years ago, the Statesmen and Hurricanes have had a spirited rivalry the last three seasons, with each team winning three games … The Statesmen earned the biggest of their three wins in the Region X Conference Championship game last season, defeating Louisburg on its own court, 80-77, to win the title en route to copping the NJCAA Division II National Championship.

DISTRIBUTING THE BALL: In his last six games, Dean McBride has accounted for 54 assists, an average of 9.0 per game. 

POINT PRODUCTION: Sophomore Troy Gibson leads the team in scoring at 15.0 ppg and has maintained his scoring average all season while leading the team in minutes played (28.3 mpg) … Fellow sophomore forward Devin Smith averages 12.4 ppg followed by Griggs at 12.0 ppg and sophomore guard Gerard Dean-McBride at 11.2 ppg.
 

CAPTAIN GIBSON: Gibson is in the midst of scoring in double figures in 11 straight games and has had 21 double figures scoring efforts this season … In his consistent sophomore season, Gibson has registered six games with double figures in rebounding and has six double-doubles  … Gibson currently has scored 461 career points and at his current pace would reach 500 points against Brunswick Community College on Feb. 14.  

ABOUT LOUISBURG: The Hurricanes have won 16 of their 17 games, the only blemish coming in a 72-61 loss to Patrick Henry on Jan. 20 … Louisburg is also in the midst of an 11-game winning streak … Five players average in double figures for the Hurricanes, led by sophomore CJ Hill (17.4 ppg) … Jamarcus Hairston leads the team in rebounding (8.2 rpg) … Louisburg averages 92.1 points a game, 8th best in NJCAA Division II … The Hurricanes boast a 15.1 rebound margin, which is also 8th best in the nation.
 

WHAT'S NEXT: The Statesmen return home for a pair of non-conference games against Potomac State (WV) on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m., which is Tri-Cities Youth Game on campus … The game is free for all Tri-Cities youth accompanied by one adult ... Potomac is currently ranked No. 15 in the nation in NJCAA Divison II ...
