Richard Bland Names Katy Lampman Senior Woman Administrator

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College Director of Athletics Chuck Moore has announced the appointment of second-year softball head coach Katy Lampman as the College's first-ever Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).  The SWA position is the highest-ranking female in the athletic department.  Lampman will serve as a liaison to the Richard Bland women's teams, representing the department and female student-athletes on campus as well as at NJCAA and Region X meetings in addition to other administrative duties.

"With the rapid growth of our athletics department, it's become critical to name an SWA," explained Moore.  "Katy rightfully deserves this.  She has proven to be a leader amongst not only our female student-athletes, but all of our student-athletes and coaches.  I look forward to her making a strong impact in this department, but more importantly to our campus and student-athletes."

Lampman led Richard Bland to an overall record of 25-21 during 2017, including 16-8 in Region X, before advancing to the post-season Region X Tournament Championship for only the second time in program history.  The Statesmen placed four individuals on the 2017 All-Region X Team, and established 11 new program records, including for batting average (.374), home runs (29) and RBIs (320).  The 25 wins are the second-most in program history.  Lampman also serves the College as Coordinator of Recreation, including the campus intramurals program.

"I want to thank Chuck for giving me the opportunity to represent all of our female student-athletes," said Lampman.  "Being named the SWA is a great honor, and I am looking forward to empowering our female student-athletes through positive mentoring, open communication and leadership."

Lampman was the associate head coach at Radford University for three seasons (2009-11), helping the Highlanders to three Big South Conference regular season championships, two Big South Tournament titles (2009-10) and two NCAA Regional appearances (2009-10).  Prior to Radford, Lampman was a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, Winthrop University, helping the Eagles to a pair of Big South regular season and tournament championships (2007-08), and the accompanying NCAA Regional appearances.

A native of Louisa, Lampman earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Pre-Medicine from Winthrop in 2003.  She was a four-year team member with the Eagles, earning 2002 Big South Conference All-Tournament Team honors.  Lampman was named to the 2002 NFCA Academic Honor Roll, as well as the Tri-Beta Honor Society in 2002 and 2003.
