SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA –

Dryden was brought on as an Associate Head Coach to his wife, Stephanie Champine, in spring of 2022. In their first campaign at Richard Bland, Champine and Dryden led the team to a 34-3 overall record, including an undefeated 12-0 conference season. Champine garnered Region 10 Coach of the Year honors, NJCAA Division II National Championship Coach of the Tournament, NJCAA Division II Coach of the Year, and AVCA Region Coach of the Year, while leading the team to a National Championship title for the first time in program history. This was also a first for the Region 10 Conference. Stephanie secured her 100th coaching win in the title game. The Champine and Dryden, husband and wife duo, also produced three NJCAA All-Americans in Karagyn Durco, Sarah Heath, and Hailey Hopkins. Durco was also named MVP of Region 10, NJCAA Tournament MVP, and NJCAA Division II Player of the Year. Following the completion of the indoor season, Champine and Dryden lead the beach volleyball program to a 21-8 overall and 12-0 conference record, closing the season at the inaugural NJCAA Beach Volleyball National Tournament, and earning a 5th place finish. Six student-athletes from the volleyball program graduated and moved on to NCAA Division I and II colleges.

In their second season at the helm, Champine and Dryden led the program to a 33-8 overall record, and a 10-1 record in conference play, leading to a Region 10 Championship title, where six individuals were recognized throughout the first, second, and third All-Region 10 teams. Champine earned Southeast A District Coach of the Year. Following the Region 10 Championship, the Statesmen went on to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament for the third year in a row, where they placed 7th overall. Sarah Heath finished as region 10 Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Region 10, NJCAA 1st Team All-American, and AVCA 1st Team All-American. The team is currently preparing for their second official beach season.

In 2021, Champine and Dryden led Terra State to a 6th place finish at the Division II NJCAA National Championship Tournament. The team finished 36-5, including a perfect 12-0 in conference play. Under their leadership, Terra State had the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year and three First-Team selections. Champine was named OCCAC Coach of the Year in 2021 as well as Great Lakes B Coach of the Year in 2020 and 2021. In 2020, Champine and Dryden led Terra State to an 18-3 record and a 9th place finish at the Division II NJCAA National Championship Tournament, the first appearance in school history.

Prior to Terra State, Champine and Dryden held coaching roles together with Glass City Volleyball Club (Toledo, OH), Start High School and Sylvania High School. Dryden currently plays with Team Pineapple in the Professional Volleyball League of America since 2013.

"Stephanie and I are looking forward to working with the student athletes, staff, and administration at Richard Bland College. We cannot wait to begin the search for future Statesmen," says Dryden.

Dryden is a 2011 graduate of Indiana University Purdue University of Fort Wayne where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Marketing and Management, and Master's Degree in Business Administration. He was a two-time MIVA Player of the Week and holds the Single Season Dig record. In 2014 Dryden trained with Falkenberg Vollibol Klub in Sweden. He participated in the USA Tour in Slovenia and Italy in 2015. Dryden played for the Blizzard Team in Serbia the following year.

"I am excited to bring Stephanie and Shaun on board at Richard Bland College. I had the privilege of watching their team in Iowa at the Division II National Championship Tournament this past fall and knew that team was built on solid leadership and structure. We are very fortunate to have them," Newton says.
