Statesmen Take One From Trojans

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 11-4 overall, 6-3 in conference play after hosting Fayetteville Technical Community College Friday afternoon for game one, and Sunday afternoon for games two and three.

 

In game one, Richard Bland was triumphant over the Trojans, 7-4. The Trojans took the lead in the top of the second inning and maintained the lead through the top fourth. Richard Bland took over in the bottom of the fourth innings after Michael Duncan singled, Eric Fila doubled, Maddaux Childress doubled, and Jaden Groome singled, each scoring one run. Fayetteville Tech tied the game at four in the top of the seventh, but in the bottom of the inning, the Statesmen broke up the tie when Macho Santiago doubled, scoring two runs. Then a sacrifice fly by Landon Scott followed to extend the lead to 7-4. Richard Bland college nine hits in the game. Childress led the offense with two hits in four at bats, while Santiago provided two runs batted in. Richard Bland worked the count all day piling up seven walks, and stole five bases in the game. Matthew Boyd stepped on the mound first for Richard Bland. The righty surrendered three hits and three runs over four innings, striking out six and walking five. Charlie Rohr pitched five innings in relief surrendering two hits and one run while striking out 11 and walking one.

 

In game two, Richard Bland couldn't keep up with Fayetteville Tech, falling 5-12. Richard Bland opened the scoring in the first after Keegan Mahoney hit a solo home run to right field. Fayetteville Tech flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on two hits to take a 1-5 lead. Landon Scott and Eric Fila each collected two hits for Richard Bland. Fila seized on his opportunities, leading with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The catcher went 2-for-4 in the opening game on Sunday. Darren Osborne led things off on the hill for the Statesmen. The righty allowed two hits and five runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking three.

 

In game three, the Statesmen fell 1-14 in five innings. Fayetteville Tech tallied seven runs in the first inning, one in the second, five in the third, and one in the fourth to solidify the victory. Michael Duncan led Richard Bland with two hits in two at bats. Jordan Ramsey led with one run batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-3 in the nightcap. Keegan Mahoney led things off on the mound for the Statesmen. The southpaw gave up four hits and seven runs over one inning, striking out none and walking four. Dylan Jones, Ryan Martin, Connor Sakamoto, and Keller Vogler all threw in relief, tallying six strikeouts combined.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Brunswick Community College on Friday, March 15th and Saturday, March 16th for the conference series. Friday's single game will begin at 2pm, while Saturday's doubleheader is set to start at 12pm.
