#7 Brunswick Dolphins Take Three from Statesmen

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 11-7 overall, 6-6 in conference play after traveling to Brunswick Community College Friday and Saturday for the three-game conference series.

 

In game one, Richard Bland had trouble keeping up with Brunswick Community College in a 3-13 loss on Friday. Brunswick got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, tallying four runs to take the early lead. The Dolphins added to their lead in the second, fourth, and fifth innings securing a five-inning victory. Richard Bland scored two runs in the top of the third on a home run to center field by Jordan Ramsey. Ramsey went 1-for-2 in the opening game. Samuel Young, Macho Santiago, and Michael Duncan also collected one hit for Richard Bland. Matthew Boyd began the game for Richard Bland. The righty gave up 10hits and nine runs over four innings, striking out two and walking two.

 

In game two, Richard Bland fell to the Dolphins 4-6. A home run put the Dolphins on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The Dolphins extended their lead to four in the second. Richard Bland tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a single by Keegan Mahoney, a fielder's choice by Samuel Young, and a hit by a pitch. In the bottom of the fourth, Brunswick broke up the tie scoring two runs. Young led Richard Bland with two runs batted in. Eric Fila showed depth in the lineup by leading the team with two hits in three at bats. Andrew Bottari started the game for the Statesmen. Bottari allowed five hits and five runs over three and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two.

 

In game three, Macho Santiago collected four hits in four at bats, but Richard Bland fell to the Dolphins 4-12 in the final game of the series. Santiago hit a home run to right field in the first inning, singled in the third inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the seventh inning for the Statesmen offense. The Dolphins took the lead in the second, but not for long as Michael Duncan and Jaden Groome each scored one run in the third to level the score, 4-4. Landon Scott collected two hits for Richard Bland in four at bats. Jackson Hulcher started on the bump for Richard Bland. He gave up five hits and six runs over four innings, striking out four and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Louisburg College on Friday, March 22nd for games one and two of the series. The doubleheader will begin at 3pm. The third game of the series will take place at Petersburg Sports Complex on Saturday, March 23rd at 2pm.
