Baseball Suffers Pair of Setbacks Against Hurricanes

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 11-9 overall, 6-6 in conference play after hosting Louisburg College Friday afternoon in a nonconference doubleheader.

 

In game one, the Hurricanes got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Richard Bland took the lead as Michael Duncan homered to left field, scoring three runs. In the bottom of the third, Jordan Ramsey grounded into a double play, earning one rbi as Landon Scott scored, putting the Statesmen ahead 4-2. The Hurricanes added one run in the top of the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, taking home a 4-5 win. Duncan led the offense going 1-for-3 with three rbi and one walk. Charlie Rohr started the game on the mound for Richard Bland. Rohr lasted three innings surrendering two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking three. Matthew Boyd took the loss, surrendering one run on two hits, while striking out three and walking one in two innings pitched.

 

In game two, the Hurricanes opened the scoring in the second inning on a Hurricane single through the left side. The Statesmen tied the game at one in the bottom of the frame when Ben Adams reached first on an error, advancing Young to second, and scoring Carter Jones. Louisburg added one more in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the fifth to take home a 4-7 win. Macho Santiago, Jordan Ramsey, and Jaden Groome led the way at the plate going 3-for-4, 2-for-4, and 2-for-3. Carter Jones and Jaden Groome had one rbi each. Reece Hamilton started the game for the Statesmen. Hamilton went two innings surrendering one run on two hits, while striking out one and walking none. Dylan Jones took the loss for Richard Bland. Jones went one inning, surrendering three runs on four hits, striking out zero and walking zero. Andrew Bottari, Connor Sakamoto, and Alex Chini also threw at least one inning each in relief.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next travels to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) on Tuesday, March 26th for a single conference game.
