Baseball Drops Heartbreaker to Bobcats

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team moves to 11-10 overall, 6-7 in conference play after traveling to Bryant & Stratton College (VA) Tuesday afternoon for a single, nine-inning conference game with the Bobcats.

 

The Bobcats claimed the single game win in a thrilling showdown Tuesday afternoon. Bryant & Stratton College snatched the lead late in their 3-4 victory over the Statesmen. The Bobcats were down by one in the bottom of the eighth inning when Matthew Boyd induced a Bobcat to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored to seal the win.

 

Eric Fila broke the scoring open in the top of the fourth inning with a four-bagger on a line drive to left field. The Bobcats fought back adding one of their own in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the fifth inning, Landon Scott singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Carter Jones, and Macho Santiago grounded out, scoring Mahoney, to regain the lead 3-1. In the bottom of the eighth, the Bobcats put up three runs and held on for the narrow conference victory.

 

Reece Hamilton started the game on the hill for the Statesmen. Hamilton went six innings allowing one run on six hits, striking out four, and walking one. Matthew Boyd came in in relief throwing two innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out none and walking one.

 

The Richard Bland College baseball team next hosts Lenoir Community College on Friday, March 29th in a 12pm doubleheader. Game three of the series will take place on the road on Saturday, March 30th at 12pm.
