STATESMEN FINISH STRONG TO SLIDE PAST THE WILDCATS

Wytheville, VA, December 18, 2013-Richard Bland escaped the Wildcats claws on the road to win 93-80. The Statesmen got out to a quick 14-6 lead at the 14:31 mark of the first half. Wytheville fought back and took a two point lead at 27-25, but Micah Thomas' layup tied the game at 27 with 4:37 remaining in the opening half. The Statesmen took a two point lead 36-34 at the half.

The Wildcats opened the second half with a 7-0 run to lead 41-36. Micah Thomas' third triple put the Statesmen up 45-44 and never looked back. The Statesmen were lead in scoring by Micah Thomas with 29 points, Tavon Mealy added 13 points and 8 rebounds, Avery Ugba tossed in 12 points and pulled down nine boards, while Trayvonte Brown chipped in 10 points.

The Statesmen now 10-1 will take on the NJCAA Division I 20th ranked Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College tomorrow December 19th at 5:00 pm at Statesman Hall for the final game of the semester.
