RBC HOOPS MEETS FOE POTOMAC STATE

PETERSBURG, Va. – Fresh off a hard-fought victory over CCBC Dundalk in the season and home opener, the No. 11 Richard Bland Statesmen men's basketball team will travel to West Virginia, to face ranked opponent No. 18 Potomac State on Saturday, Nov. 8th. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.

Three Statesmen scored in double figures in Saturday's win over the Lions paced by veteran forward Avery Ugba. The sophomore from Silver Springs, Md., led with 19 points, while grabbing 10 rebounds, one block and one assist. Sophomore Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) followed with 17 points, snatching 11 rebounds, two assist and two steals.

Freshman guard Reginald Moses (Henrico, VA) netted 17 points off the bench in his first career game as a Statesmen. Moses shot a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line and 5-5 from field goal range.

Nine letterwinners and five starters return from last year's post-season squad who won 27 out of 31 games. RBC (1-0) will look to continue leaning on veteran leadership this season as 11 of the 15 players on the roster are upperclassmen.

New faces to the roster are Moses, De'Andre Kellam (Rocky Mount, VA), Region X New Comer to Watch Troy Gibson (Newport News, VA), Isreal Stith (Brunswick, VA) and transfers Jhamir White (Paterson, NJ), Joshua Marshall (Stone Mountain, GA) and Pedro Berrios (Hopewell, VA).

Potomac State is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region XX. The Catamounts enter their season under head coach Justin Anderson who led his team to 21-10 overall record last season.

Last season, Richard Bland defeated Potomac State, 93-74 on Jan. 19th in Statesman Hall.

The Catamounts kicked off the season 1-1, defeating Virginia Western, 99-65 before dropping to CCBC Dundalk, 83-69.

Saturday marks a home opener for Potomac State.
