No. 3 RICHARD BLAND EDGE CAPE FEAR TO EXTEND WIN-STREAK TO 14 GAMES

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland College men's basketball team edged Cape Fear Community College, 87-82 to extend its winning streak to 14 consecutive games on Wednesday, January 7th in Statesman Hall. The Statesmen remain undefeated with an overall record of 14-0 and 6-0 in the league, while the Sea Devils drop to 10-6 overall.

The Statesmen opened up the contest with back to back buckets to lead early over the Sea Devils, 4-0. Calvin Davis would score a layup to cut the lead to two at the 18:20 mark.

Richard Bland largest lead of the first half came at the 7:43 mark when Brian Adkins (Aberdeen, MD) scored a layup to put the Statesmen up 10. At intermission, the Sea Devils trailed 45-38 to the Statesmen.

As the second half got underway, the Statesmen would continue to dominate and would reach a lead by as many as 16 points at the 7:06 mark.

RBC maintained a lead for the remainder of the game despite the Sea Devils late run to cut the deficit to just one point with .31 seconds remaining in the game.

Late free-throws by Reginald Moses (Henrico, VA) and Khaaliq Fletcher (Hampton, VA) would give the Statesmen the advantage to secure its fourteenth-straight victory.

Tavon Mealy (Richmond, VA) had a game-high 22 points, while grabbing 10 rebounds. Pedro Berrios (Hopewell, VA) chipped in a career-high 14 points off the bench to go along with seven rebounds and Moses charted 13 points while collecting nine rebounds.

Cape Fear was out-rebounded 62-46 throughout the game. Richard Bland scored 20 points off of second chances to the Sea Devils 11 but cut it close with points in the paint at 40-34.

The third-ranked Statesmen will matchup against conference foe and 17th-ranked Bryant & Stratton on Saturday, January 10th. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.
