No. 3 RBC HOOPS HEAD TO No. 17 BRYANT & STRATTON SATURDAY

PETERSBURG, Va. – After clipping Cape Fear for its fourteenth consecutive win, the Richard Bland College men's basketball team takes the court again on Saturday afternoon against conference foe and 17th-ranked Bryant & Stratton in Norfolk, Va. at 3 p.m.

 

The Statesmen (14-0 overall, 6-0 Region X) edged the Sea Devils of Cape Fear in an 87-82 decision at Statesman Hall on Jan. 7.

 

RBC shot 38.5 percent from the floor (27-73) and converted 60.6 percent (20-33) from the free-throw line.

 

Tavon Mealy (Armstrong) once again led the Statesmen in scoring, finishing with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds. Pedro Berrios (Hopewell) had career-highs in points (14) and rebounds (seven). Reginald Moses (Henrico) chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds for RBC.

 

The Statesmen now sit atop for first place in the Region X conference standings.

Bryant & Stratton enter the contest with a 12-4 overall record and 6-2 in Region X play.

Jaleel Ferguson leads the Bobcats in scoring, averaging 10.6 per contest. He scored 10 points in the loss to No.1 Louisburg while Rahson Robinson charted 20 points to along with six rebounds and Devon Mayo who added 16 points.

The matchup will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. The last time these two teams saw each other, RBC came out on top with a 65-55 win over the Bobcats.
