SECOND HALF SURGE LEADS BASKETBALL PAST CCBC DUNDALK, 99-94

BALTIMORE, MD (Nov. 1, 2015) — Two games in the books and two victories for the Richard Bland College men's basketball team, which earned a 99-94 victory over the Community College of Baltimore County Dundalk on Sunday afternoon in non conference action.

It was an impressive comeback effort for the Statesmen, who trailed from the final 10:58 of the first half, when the host Lions took a 17-15 lead, until six minutes remaining in the game when Richard Bland surged ahead 80-78, establishing a lead it would not relinquish. The game was tied 74-74 with 7:20 remaining when RBC went on a mini 6-4 run to secure the lead. The victory was the 12th straight over two seasons for defending NJCAA Division II National Champions, who defeated CCBC Dundalk in a much lower scoring game last season in Petersburg, 76-68.

With the victory, the Statesmen improve to 2-0 and will next face Essex County College in the opening round of the Essex County College Wolverine Tournament on Friday, Nov. 6 at 8 p.m. CCBC Dundalk drops its first game of the 2015-16 season and travels to Northern Virginia Community College for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

The Lions held their largest lead, 50-39, late in the second half. Richard Bland closed out the half trailing by only five points, 50-45, thanks to a 6-0 spurt.

Richard Bland was led in scoring by freshman guard Deandre Clark (Orange County, VA/Wakefield Private School) who tallied 25 points. His performance was aided by sophomore forward Troy Gibson (Newport News, VA/Heritage) who had 20 points, 18 of those coming in the second half. Due to picking up two quick first half fouls, the lone returner from last year's team played just three minutes in the first half and tallied two points.

Petersburg native Myles Markland (Petersburg, VA/Matoaca) and Jaquan Wooten (Goldsboro, NC/South Lenoir) both played key roles in Richard Bland's comeback, Wooten connecting on two big dunks as the Statesmen fought their way back into the game.
