Richard Bland Names Jaquan Wooten Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore men's basketball standout Jaquan Wooten/Kinston, North Carolina has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period November 9-15. He led the Statesmen to a 2-1 week, averaging 23.0 minutes, 12.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.7 blocks, while shooting 75% (15-20) from the field and 50% (8-16) at the free throw line. Wooten posted two double-doubles, including 19 points and 10 rebounds during an 84-75 road win at The College of Southern Maryland on November 9, along with 15 points and 16 rebounds during a 62-48 setback at NJCAA Division I Monroe (N.Y.) College on Nov. 13. He added eight blocks against Monroe, as well.

Through six games, the 6-9 Wooten leads Richard Bland (4-2) with is averages of 12.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. He is shooting a team-best 74% (31-42) from the field, as well as 50% (14-28) at the line, adding five steals and four assists. Wooten has a team-best four double-doubles on the season, as well.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
JW: It is an amazing feeling because it means being an amazing student-athlete.

Q: How did you get started in basketball and how long have you played?
JW: My dad got me started playing basketball at the age of four. He used to take me to the gym and show me how to shoot and dribble. I've been playing basketball for 16 years.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
JW: I like the team chemistry that we have, and how well we support each other. I also like the way we play together as a team and challenge each other.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
JW: Harrison Mitchell is the funniest person on our team, and it's because he is always joking and making us laugh.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
JW: I like to listen to Big Sean before every game.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
JW: The residence halls because it's where I get to spend time with my friends.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
JW: My favorite class is General Sociology (201) because I plan to minor in Sociology.
