COMMUNITY SERVICE: Richard Bland Canned Food Drive A Success

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland Athletics recently conducted a successful Canned Food Drive to benefit The Hope Center in Petersburg, collecting approximately 400-500 pounds. Fans were asked to bring a canned food, dry goods or peanut butter to the December 3 men's basketball game against Catawba Valley (N.C.) Community College (W 89-66) in Statesman Hall.

It was also FCA Appreciation Day in recognition of the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) organization that serves 26 area high schools. The FCA, an international non-profit Christian sports ministry, contributed to the canned food drive with a very generous donation of goods (approximately 250-300 pounds).

"Richard Bland Athletics is proud to donate the canned goods collected at the basketball game to The Hope Center and we look forward to continuing this tradition," said Danish Saadat, Coordinator of Athletics Special Events. "It's always nice to be able to give back to our community during the holiday season, and we really appreciate the support of the local FCA organization and everything they do for our student-athletes."
