Richard Bland Names Tim Bing Jr. Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore men's basketball standout Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period November 6-12.  The 6-2 guard led the preseason nationally-ranked No. 2 Statesmen (5-0) to a pair of wins, including an 81-80 road win at Northern Virginia on Nov. 8 and a 101-85 home win past Southern Maryland on Nov. 10.

Bing posted 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals against the Nighthawks.  He followed that effort with 14 points, four rebounds, seven assists and one steal against the Hawks.

Bing has started each of the first five games this season, averaging 13.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 24.6 minutes, while shooting 47% (23-49) from the field, including 43% (6-14) on three-point field goals, and 88% (15-17) at the free throw line.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
TB: It feels good to be acknowledged for my hard work. 

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
TB: I got started with my mom and grandmother taking me to the park.  I have been playing organized basketball since seventh grade. 

Q: What do you like most about your team?
TB: We all get along so well together as a unit, even though we do have our ups and downs. 

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
TB: Brandon Henry.  He always has jokes. 

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
TB: I listen to music that will pump me up, and I play hard for my father, who passed away.  I always think about my mom and grandmother, too. 

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
TB: My room in Patriot Hall.  That's where I get to relax. 

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
TB: Biology lecture with Dr. Eric Miller, Assistant Professor of Biology.  He is just a good teacher.  He knows when people don't understand and will help them.
