No. 2 Richard Bland Welcomes Pitt (N.C.) On Wednesday At 7 p.m.

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- No. 2 Richard Bland College will host Pitt (N.C.) Community College in a Region 10 men's basketball game on Wednesday night, November 29, at 7 p.m. in Statesman Hall.  The preseason nationally-ranked Statesmen are 6-2 overall, 1-0 in Region 10, while 3-0 at home this season.  The Bulldogs are 5-1 overall, 1-0 in Region 10, and will be playing their first true road contest.  Admission is free to all home games, while the game can be heard locally on WHAP Radio, Fox Sports 1340 AM.

The College's Athletics Department is also conducting a Canned Food Drive to benefit The Hope Center in Petersburg.  Everyone attending the home game is asked to make a donation of canned food at the entrance of Statesman Hall.  The contest is also the department's FCA Appreciation Game, sponsored by Bojangles, as free Bojangles t-shirts and gift cards will be awarded throughout the night's competition.

Scouting the Statesmen
No. 2 Richard Bland is playing for the first time in nine days after winning its Region 10 opener on the road at Vance-Granville (N.C.) 134-76 on Nov. 20.  The 134 points were a single-game scoring record for the program.  The Statesmen, who are an outstanding 110-33 (.769) over the past four-plus seasons, are coached by fifth-year head coach Chuck Moore (158-49 overall), and assisted by third-year assistant coach Preston Beverly and first-year student assistant coach Brandon Henry.

Through eight games, Richard Bland has been led in scoring by 6-4, 225-pound sophomore guard Robert Smith/Hampton, who is averaging 20.6 points and 5.9 rebounds with five 20-point games and a season-high of 31 points.  He is followed by local 6-7 sophomore forward Stanley Taylor/Petersburg, who is averaging 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds with three double-doubles and season-highs of 30 points and 17 rebounds.  6-2 sophomore guard Tim Bing Jr./Suitland, Maryland adds 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists with four double-figure scoring games and a season-high of 17 points.  Richard Bland is averaging 90.0 points per game, while allowing 77.3 points to opponents for a scoring margin of +12.7.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Pitt (N.C.) last played eight days ago with a 105-79 home win past Lenoir (N.C.) on Nov. 21, and is coached by seventh year head coach Darrick Mullins.  The Bulldogs have been led in scoring by sophomores Brandon Faison (22.8), Darian Daniels (12.5) and Antonio Freeman (10.7).  PCC averages 92.7 points, allowing 73.3 points for a margin of +19.4. 

Series History
Richard Bland and Pitt (N.C.) are playing for the ninth time in the sport of men's basketball, and the Statesmen lead the series, 6-2.  Richard Bland won both games between the two schools last season, including 80-57 on Nov. 30, 2016 in North Carolina and 87-83 on January 19, 2017 in Statesman Hall.
