Richard Bland Names Tyler Lloyd Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College redshirt-freshman men's basketball standout Tyler Lloyd/Manassas has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period November 27-December 3.  The 6-4 guard led the nationally-ranked No. 6 Statesmen (8-2, 3-0 Region 10) to a pair of region wins, including a 92-76 home win past Pitt (N.C.) on Nov. 29 and a 105-68 road win at Catawba Valley (N.C.) on Dec. 2.

Lloyd posted career-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double against the Red Hawks in North Carolina, adding two steals.  He had three points, two rebounds and one block against the Bulldogs in Statesman Hall.

Lloyd has started two of the 10 games this season, averaging 5.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 12.6 minutes, while shooting 32% (16-50) from the field, including 36% (8-22) on three-point field goals, and 54% (13-24) at the free throw line.  He adds nine steals, seven assists and four blocks.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
TL: It's such a great honor and it feels really good when you know you've been working hard.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
TL: I was playing outside at recess with my friend and he asked if I wanted to play AAU basketball, so his dad told my mom about it, and we went from there.  I started playing on an AAU team called the Alexandria Cardinals.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
TL: They're very funny and very different from each other.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
TL: Brandon Henry.  You can always count on him for a laugh at any time and any situation during the day.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
TL: I drink a Fanta soda and put wrist tape on with some writing about my mom on it.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
TL: My dorm room because it is so peaceful and quiet, so I stay there most the day.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
TL: Biology lecture with Dr. Eric Miller, Assistant Professor of Biology.  He's a really good teacher and genuine guy, who teaches for the right reasons.
