Richard Bland Names Tre' Patterson Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore men's basketball standout Tre' Patterson/Richmond has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period January 23-29.  The 6-3 guard helped the Statesmen (15-5, 9-3 Region 10) to 3-0 week, including Region 10 home wins past in-state rival Patrick Henry on Jan. 24 (81-60), Guilford Tech (N.C.) on Jan. 27 (105-87) and Lenoir (N.C.) on Jan. 28 (96-76).

Patterson posted two double-doubles last week with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists against Guilford Tech, and 10 points, 10 rebounds and two assists against Lenoir.  He had six points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal against Patrick Henry. 

A transfer student-athlete from Virginia Union University, Patterson has started two of 19 games this season, averaging 9.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 19.1 minutes, while shooting 44% (70-159) from the field, including 29% (16-56) on three-point field goals, and 52% (15-29) at the free throw line.  He adds 27 steals and 15 blocks, while posting season-highs of 18 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and four blocks.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
TP: I am very honored and blessed to be named Athlete of the Week.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
TP: My dad put a basketball in my hands at two years old.  I began taking it serious in fourth grade when I started playing AAU.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
TP: I like how close-knit we are off of the court.  We treat each other like brothers.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
TP: Stanley Taylor.  He always has something to say, and it usually ends with me laughing pretty hard.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
TP: I listen to NBA YoungBoy to get me in my zone.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
TP: Statesman Hall.  Every time I step on the hardwood, all my troubles leave my mind and I can just lock-in on basketball.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
TP: Interpersonal Communication with David E. Majewski, Professor of Speech & Theatre.  He always has a story to tell.  I have learned a lot from being in his class.
